A native of Pittsburgh and a self proclaimed synth nerd, Shawn Rudiman is known for his deep, soulful style of techno, and for his live improvised sets which he constructs on the fly using a horde of vintage machines. In 2013 he released Monolithic Soul, a collection of songs in four time-limited installments through the Detroit Techno Militia label. Shawn Rudiman also runs the Technoir Audio label with Adam Ratana and Jwan Allen. In 2016 Shawn released collection of unreleased recordings from 1999 to 2004, the first in a series of from-the-vault compilations from the American producer. The following year a two-decade retrospective album “Timespan” was released on Pittsburgh Tracks. A frequent guest in our home and now Berlin-based Derek Plaslaiko quietly paid his dues on Detroit’s rave circuit from his nearby hometown, and quickly earned a reputation for forward thinking DJ sets that were clinical, sophisticated and extremely sensual. This combination resulted in a residency for Family, the weekly party at Detroit’s legendary Motor. Some will know Derek Plaslaiko as a favorite of the mid-90s Detroit warehouse scene, which lead to a personal invite from Carl Craig to appear at the inaugural Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000. His near decade-long residency at New York’s Bunker parties garnered him “Best Techno Party DJ” by the Village Voice in 2006. Michael Brunner is a Philadelphia-based DJ, and a core member of the city’s 1694 collective. His current work tends toward the ambient and the experimental, which 1694 showcases in their monthly A/V salon event, Curious Dream. Brunner came up as a jungle DJ in the mid-90s in Chicago, and dove headfirst into the explosion of largely UK-based bass music in the early 2000s. Tresor Club resident Handmade‘s DJing is perfectly tuned to the Globus Floor’s wavelength: oscillating between house and techno styles, the dancing crowd in a firm grip, driven to fill the dancefloor. An integral part of the Tresor resident team since 2009, Handmade earned his stripes in the rocky terrain of the Berlin nightlife. Little by little he developed his pumping original mix of superior and timeless dance styles that have particularly influenced his experience. Handmade’s explosive trademark DJ style: deep and dubby-grounded á la Detroit, with the jacking stabs of Chicago influences and occasional deviations into tougher or soulful soundscapes. In Tresor: appearing just about a year after his last set in our home, Steve Bailey aka Makaton is a U.K. techno producer whose style ranges from experimental to industrial and dark elements. His earlier releases were on Rodz-Konez and his newer output is released on James Ruskin’s Blueprint label, including his 2017 EP “All Kneel”. A promoter of the underground culture, a DJ and a respected producer, Serbian-born Lag is the on the forefront of the new wave of techno artists. Returning again after his set in our home last November, Manni Dee’s techno smells something like burning rubber. Since 2013’s ‘Pareidolia’ EP, the London-based producer and DJ has been turning out breakneck warehouse fillers with an ear for the unsettled. Manni Dee has become a repeat offender on Ali Wells fronted Perc Trax, culminating in the anarchic ‘Throbs Of Discontent’ EP, and his “Human Image” EP was the debut release for Holland’s Leyla Records. Lag’s DJ performances on the Exit festival’s main DJ stage, and in our home speak volumes of his ability to engage his crowd, and offer an intense sonic experience. After several appearances and releases, predominantly on the Serbian label Teskoba, his remix of Grovskopa’s “Atopic” is released on vinyl by Sect Records. He follows it up with his first EP named “Stutter”, a highly acclaimed release which came out on the notoriously uncompromising Singularity Recordings, and Lag’s latest outputs, 12” releases on MORD Records underline the quality and uniqueness of his already recognizable sound. Paàl, also known as one of the founders of the label Voitax, debuted last year on our new faces night. He is an artist that devotes all of his passion to the sounds that he creates and the music that he supports. The focus in Paàl’s creations, such as in his very heavy and varied sets as well as on his label, is always on the sound, on the art piece itself and less on the artist behind it.
